[The camera focuses on Molly, who is looking at one of the derelict buildings somewhere near the clinic. It is not as bad as most of the buildings in Adstring, it looks like a home that was once very much loved, and has now been forgotten. Molly is quiet, in her own little world, unaware that the PCD is even on. She stares at the house for a long moment or two, then bites her lip and looks away.

She turns towards the general direction of the camera, and her face looks as though her heart's been broken, stomped on, and generally ripped into small pieces. Eventually she sees the PCD, notices the light running, and picks it up. When she finally says something, there is no trace of the turmoil on her face in her voice, only a slight waver.]

So. Who wants to point me towards an apartment or something?

[How many times is she ever going to get the chance to hear that? Usagi grins and bends over to pack together a bit of snow, round and firm.]

Ready? [She pulls back her arm and... it's painfully obvious she'll never be a pitcher. But it should do for this, as she lets the snowball fly.]

[That's alright, though! Molly is frowning in concentration, and a small pale shield appears in the area Usagi threw the snowball at. It's not enough to stop it entirely, but it does deflect the snowball enough that it goes whizzing past Molly's head.]

You did it! [Usagi all but jumps up and down, and she does clap her hands together excitedly.]

[Molly gives her an amused look, reminded almost of one of her younger sisters.]

Yeah, but Harry can ...you know, actually stop them. He's better at defensive stuff than I am.

Don't worry about that! Just concentrate on doing your own best. You'll improve at the same time.

Maybe. Dunno how well I'll do without a teacher around.

There are a lot of people who use magic here. Maybe one of them can teach you and help out.

Yeah, but not all magic's the same, is the thing.

But there could still be someone. Because, there are a lot of different worlds that people here come from. Power might be the same in more than one.

It might be, but I doubt it.

You can't decide that until you try! So come on, let's ask around and see about who says they'd do it, and then we can find out if they can teach you.

[A shrug.]

Um. Okay, I guess.

[That reaction is not nearly excited enough. But that's OK; Usagi has enough enthusiasm for both of them.]

I'll ask around, too! I know a lot of the people here after this long.

[She hasn't really felt enthusiastic in about six months. Sorry, Usagi.]

Yeah? How long have you been here?

Well, um, I've been here... That is....

[The hesitation isn't from not knowing; she knows every minute of it. But it's hard to admit she's been here this long, helpless to stop it this long.]

I've been here a year and a half.

....And you haven't done anything about it?

[Why do people assume that?]

Of course I've done things. I've infiltrated the Inner City along with others, twice. I've helped the search for the scientists. When the animus do things, I've helped people in those times, too. I'm a member of the police force.

[She's not someone who could ever sit patiently in this situation. She's done everything she can - those missions, saving the victims of the animus' curses or the place's own violence, even forcing herself to think clearly about the clues the animus have given them. And she's done what she can to protect the place as a whole.

But even with that, even with everyone else, too, they haven't been able to end it yet.]

Good. [Her face is shadowed, again, though, at the thought of being here for as long as a year and a half.]

I -- I can't be here that long. It's not gonna happen.

[There's a little smile.] Thanks.

I believe it's just the only way we can do this. Even if it isn't for friendship's sake, we're definitely stronger together, all of us.
